Kohl Ithmid Tarim – Celak Ithmid Tarim (Eyeliner)

Kohl (كُحْل) – is a cosmetic powder used in the East especially the Arabs, to darken the eyelids.

Ithmid (اِثْمِد) – is a type of a natural stone (Antimony), powdered to be used as kohl for the eyes. This is the type of kohl that was used and recommended by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Each tube of Yagut’s Kohl Tarim consists of a pinch of black Ithmid which has been traditionally prepared and is molded onto the tip of a wooden stick which will glide easily on the eyelids when being used. These are hand-made and packed by the locals in Tarim, Hadhramout, Southern Yemen – these are the kohl used by people Tarim. The Kohl does not irritate the eyes and is safe to be used on children.

Using kohl has been established in the Sunnah. It has been narrated in various hadiths that the Prophet ﷺ used kohl and has commanded others to use it.

Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A) narrates that the Messenger ﷺ said: “You should use Ithmid for it improves the eyesight and makes the eyelashes grow.” – (Hasan, Saheeh ibn Maajah 3495).

Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas (R.A) narrated that the Messenger ﷺ said: “The best of your Kohl is Ithmid, for it improves the eyesight and makes the eyelashes grow.” – (Hasan, Saheeh ibn Maajah 3497).

Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbas (R.A) says: “…And the best of what you use for Kohl is Ithmid, for it clears the vision and grows the hair (eyelashes).” And he said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ had a Kohl holder with which he would apply Kohl before sleeping thrice in each eye.” – (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi 2048)

HOW TO USE

•Apply the Kohl onto the waterline (area of skin between the base of the lash line and the cornea, where the eyelids meet when closed) of the eyes, or under and over the eyelashes.

•Best is to apply the kohl to each eye 3 times before going to sleep following the Sunnah.
